Zindagi Research Grant Lead

Project Mukti is hiring a Zindagi Research Grant Lead who will oversee the full grant cycle: from outreach and selection to mentorship, workshops, documentation, and impact reporting. This role is ideal for someone with a background in grant management and strong facilitation skills.

Program Leadership & Management
● Lead the overall implementation of the Zindagi Research Grant cycle from outreach and selection to mentorship, documentation, and reporting.
● Guide strategic direction, ensure alignment with Project Mukti’s values, and develop timelines, tools, and systems to support grantees effectively.
● Coordinate with internal teams and external advisors to uphold the program’s ethical and political commitments.
Grantee Support & Capacity Building
● Facilitate onboarding, orientation, and regular check-ins with selected grantees.
● Organize workshops and sessions on research methods, writing, documentation, and ethics.
● Provide mentorship and editorial support to help grantees develop their projects and outputs.
● Ensure each fellow is assigned a mentor
Community-Centered Research Oversight
● Ensure grantee projects center community voices and follow decolonial, anti-caste, and feminist research frameworks.
● Create safe and collaborative spaces for grantees to reflect on research as resistance, care, and healing.
● Offer guidance on navigating institutional, ethical, or political challenges during the research process.
Monitoring, Documentation & Reporting
● Maintain thorough documentation of grantee progress, workshop learnings, and key milestones.
● Coordinate submission and review of interim updates and final reports.
● Prepare an internal impact summary/report at the end of the grant cycle.
Outreach, Partnerships & Communication
● Support outreach to applicants via social media, emailers, and networks rooted in community, academia, and grassroots organizing.
● Collaborate with the communications team to amplify grantee research and journeys through articles, videos, and events.
● Represent the grant in external meetings, panels, or relevant forums as needed.
Mentor Assignment & Coordination
● Map fellows’ learning needs and match them with appropriate mentors.
● Maintain a database of mentors and their areas of expertise.
● Ensure all fellows are assigned mentors before they start their research.
● Facilitate introductory meetings and agreements between fellows and mentors.

●Background in Environmental Studies, Anthropology, Indigenous Studies, Development Studies, or related field
● Deep understanding of decolonial, anti-caste, feminist, and ecological frameworks.
● Experience in managing research or grant programs, preferably involving youth or marginalized communities.
● Strong facilitation, communication, and editing skills.
● Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse teams.
● Lived experience as a member of a marginalized community is highly valued and encouraged.
● Familiarity with indigenous movements, environmental justice frameworks, or oral history traditions.
● Prior experience in grassroots research, climate justice, or community-based ecological work is highly preferred.
● Strong writing and analytical skills; ability to synthesize complex data into accessible formats.
● Familiarity with decolonial, anti-caste, or intersectional frameworks in environmental work is a plus.
● Ability to work collaboratively and independently, meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.
