Project Mukti Awards 20 Dalit History Mini-Grants Across India

Project Mukti is excited to celebrate Dalit History Month 2018 with the announcement of our inaugural year of Dalit History Month Mini-grants across India. We believe in the power of Dalit History now more than ever.

This is a year when thousands of Dalits were attacked and many are still in jail for celebrating the battle of Dalit resistance in Bhima Koregaon. It is also the year when Dalits who have always celebrated Ambedkar Jayanti at the UN have been removed as co-sponsors of their own event  because the Indian mission feels like Dalits are not necessary in the celebration of Ambedkar and more importantly if they are involved they will bring up the issue of “caste”. And even if it is not enough for our celebrations to be attacked, then what is even more troubling is the destruction of our very leaders statues across the country where the status of Ambedkar and Periyar continue to be desecrated.

This is how threatening Dalit History is. They would erase it, destroy it, jail it. As if these actions could erase resistance to caste apartheid. But as long as Dalits are alive so will our history thrive. For the very presence of Dalits and our history is a threat to all those who benefit from our exploitation.

In the spirit of resilence and resistance please congratulate, support and attend these amazing Dalit History Month Celebrations! #Jaibhim #Jai Savitri
