“Gender and Caste” Summer Program 2025

The Summer Program 2025 by our Blue Blooms Program seeks to create a transformative learning space where young learners (04-15 years) are encouraged to explore the question of who they are: not in isolation, but in relation to others, to history, and to structures of power.

Through an engagement with the theme of “Gender and Caste”, the program intends to deepen the learner's understanding of identity, difference, dignity, and justice.

This year, our summer program is not just about awareness; it is about cultivating a new imagination, one where dignity is non-negotiable and every child knows they belong.

Why Gender and Caste?

Gender and caste, at the core of Indian society, shape our access to resources, our everyday interactions, and our sense of self. These are not peripheral issues; they lie at the very heart of how inequality is structured and reproduced in everyday life. For our learners, caste and gender are not merely theoretical concepts; they are embedded in their everyday experiences and shape both how they see themselves and how they are seen by others.  When these are interrogated in age-appropriate and reflective ways, we make possible the foundations of a just and compassionate community.

What Will Learners Explore?

In this program, learners will explore how caste and gender shape our everyday lives, and how we can build a more inclusive and just world, starting with ourselves.

  • Identity & Belonging: Explore who we are: our name, body, gender, caste, family, and emotions, and celebrate the uniqueness and fluidity of every individual.

  • Norms & Stereotypes: Understand how norms limit choices, reinforce inequality, and uphold systems of power.

  • Language & Dignity: Learn the impact of words, slurs, and silence. Practice using pronouns, feelings, and preferences that affirm others and respect differences.

  • Media & Representation: Analyze films, books, images, and stories. Ask: Whose voices are amplified? Whose are missing?
