Digital Illustrator

Job Description

  • We are looking for a Digital Illustrator to collaborate with the Blue Blooms team to develop engaging and inclusive curriculum content for children and young people, and bring stories to life through culturally resonant illustrations.

We are looking for someone who approaches visual work with an Anti-Caste and gender-sensitive lens and who can translate complex social realities into accessible and child-friendly visual language.

    • Illustrate original, age-appropriate digital artwork based on story manuscripts provided by the team.

    • Develop character sketches, storyboards, and final illustrations within agreed timelines.

    • Adapt the illustration style based on the tone, audience, and theme of the stories.

    • Revise and refine illustrations based on feedback from the team, ensuring consistency and clarity.

    • Ensure all illustrations reflect an anti-caste, feminist, and inclusive sensibility.

    • Submit files in required formats and resolutions suitable for both digital and print.

  • We are looking for an illustrator who not only brings artistic skill but also shares our political and pedagogical commitments. You may be a student, freelancer, or self-taught artist; what matters most is your ability to collaborate and illustrate with care, nuance, and critical imagination.

    • Prior experience in digital illustration (must share a portfolio of relevant work).

    • Proficiency in illustration tools like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Procreate, or equivalent.

    • Ability to illustrate diverse characters, everyday settings, and story-based visuals in an age-appropriate, engaging style.

    • Excellent visual storytelling skills — ability to convey emotion, movement, and context through images.

    • Familiarity with anti-caste, feminist, and anti-oppressive frameworks in visual design.

    • Openness to learning from others, receiving feedback, and adapting your artistic process accordingly.
